XTREME REDFISH FALL EVENTS
There were several requests wanting us to run a few tournaments in the off season, so that is what we have done. Below are some dates and divisions that will be running a few fall events to keep the anglers skills sharp. All Xtreme redfish rules apply. The entries are the same except the 10.00 that would normally go the the championship will be held out, and the person in the points lead after the 3 events in their division will be awarded the hold over money.

"SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST"...
Ask Joe Hebert and Howard Metts what that means.
If you fished with us at the 2009 XRS Championship, you most likely know how they would answer that! They truly did save their best for last. Starting out the day in the "chasing" rather than the "being chased" position of 2nd has it's advantages. No doubt Joe and Howard will attest to that as well. We all know how hard it can be to catch championship caliber teams ahead of you, especially with just one day's catch to do it. But, having the Day 2 Big Fish never hurts when you're trying to get out in front of the pack. And that's just what these two did! After a mini game of leapfrog, Joe and Howard found themselves sittng behind the console of their 2009 XRS Championship prize...a new 18' Canyon Bay Flats Skiff powered by an equally reliable Evinrude 60 hp ETEC Outboard along with some spending cash to boot thanks to that Day 2 lunker! Nearly $25,000.00 in prizes and cash for a weekend's work! Job well done fellas!
Competitions like this can truly test the field and this event would be no different. No doubt a few teams were lulled into an overly relaxed state with the Captain's Meeting dinner spread offered by the staff at I.C. Sharks! A special thanks to Daryl Wheatly and his "crew" for their tireless efforts to make this meeting memorable! We look forward to future events with these fine folks.
Typical Chamber of Commerce weather on day one. Just the kind of weather Frank Jackson and Jeff Mullett needed to jump out in front of the field. Hoping for a repeat on day two...they awoke to find a different kind of sunshine greeting them. Day two would be filled with "liquid sunshine" and squalls. Conditions like these on "moving day" had many wondering what it would take to get into contention. The team comprised of Shawn Vallandingham and Ryan Tiernan traveled from Georgia to compete in this championship. This wasn't the weather they were hoping for, but it was the same weather everyone else had to contend with. Knowing a win was out of the question, day 2 lunker was still to be had and they were game! As is usually the case, the weather breaks just prior to weigh in, giving the impression to the audience that all the teams had a relaxing day on the water! This crowd knew differently today...
The Tampa Harbour Yacht Club played host for the Championship and proved to be "champions" in their own right. The facility was absolutely stellar and the staff most accomodating. We at Xtreme cannot begin to express our heartfelt thanks for all they did to make our event the best it could be!
After a season-long series spanning Florida's east and west coasts, 58 teams from around the state made the trip to Tampa Bay for the final event of the 2009 season. It's been a year of economic turmoil for many friends and family of the XRS. Having such a good turnout is a testament to what we want to provide for anglers such as these.
Firmly "anchored" into next year's XRS is the 2009 Team of the Year, Rich Thomas and Rob Ganzenmuller. We can say that with confidence as their award for 2009 T.O.T.Y. is a new Power-Pole and free entries into the 2010 XRS. Congratulations guys! You beat some great teams on the way to the title of Team of the Year.
Throughout the season, we recognize teams that participate well beyond what may be needed to qualify for the Championship. This year's "Frequent Fishing Program" winners were Jeff Carolyn and Kevin Crofton. They're sure to be around next season as they too, have won free entries towards qualifying into the 2010 XRS Championship.
Lastly, when this year's field has in it, the father and son teams of Tim and Jake Whitfield, Heath and Harley Stone, not to mention Gary and Garrett Shepard all finishing the championship "in the money", it just shows what and who is waiting in the wings a few years down the road. These kids along with others are truly the future.

JACKSON AND MULLET CLOBBER 15.13 ON DAY ONE
Frank Jackson and Jeff Mullett caught 15.13lbs to take the lead on Day one of the 2009 Xtreme Redfish Championship. Joe Hebert and Howard Metts are close behind with 14.55lbs. Great weights were expected and the fisherman didn't disappoint us. It is taking over 12.50lbs to he in the top ten. More to come on day 2 later.

"HUTCH AND SLAT" SEW IT UP BY JUST ONE POINT.
David Hutcherson and Chris Slattery were the only team to weigh in two fish at the final stop of the 2009 Artificial Only West Coast Division event. Thier 8 lbs of fish were not only good enough for first place which paid 1600.00 but it secured them the overall points leader by just one point worth another 1260.00. When talking with David Bolema, captain of the second place team in the points race, he was torn on what to do. They felt they were on the fish to win the tournament and were scared to abandon them in order to catch a couple of keepers in the B spot which in turn would of won them the overall points champion and 1260.00. Unfortuantley neither worked out for them. All the fish they caght were just oversized. David went on to tell me he wouldn't do anything diffrent based on the pre fish and pile of fish that were around them all day.
Hutcherson and Slattery were the only team to weigh in fish in all 3 events proving that being consistant will pay in the end. Thanks to all the anglers which made this new series very enjoyable and I look forward to the 2010 changes.

TEAM QUILLENS TACO SHACK "WRAPPED" UP THE FIRST TITUSVILLE EVENT
Team Quillens, Jimmy Powers and Chad Aliff, worked hard and came up big with 13.14lbs which held in there for first place and $1200.00. Plagued by bad weather for the first couple of events the fisherman finally got to battle. It was a beautiful day on the water even though there were restrictions due to the shuttle launch. Only 6 teams didn’t weigh in at least one fish.
Rounding out the money winners were 2nd place and big fish, Jason Hughey and Travis Tanner who pocketed $790.00 for their efforts, in 3rd place was the team of Bill Fisher and Bob Fisher $225.00 and the final spot was Mark Sepe and Scott Powers $125.00.
On a side note there has been a director change for this division. Tom Lelle from Lelle’s Bait and Tackle will be the new director. His contact information is as follows:
Tackle Shop # 321-264-0330
Cell phone # 321-693-2603
Don’t forget that May 30th will be the next event which is replacing one of the tournaments that had to be cancelled.

XTREME DEBUT = $2,000.00
Ron Wonderling and Ed Arsenault made thier Xtreme debut and pocketed $2000.00 for their efforts. No strangers to Tournament Redfishing they put together a game plan and executed it to the T. This was a no cull event because the participation did not meet the state requirements of a minimum of 25 teams or 50 participants in order to utilize the state issued culling permits. The playing field then becomes level real quick when you have to decide to keep that fish as soon as you catch it or let it go in hopes to catch a larger one later. As you can see by the results only 2 teams had 2 fish to weigh in. Others caught small fish early on in the day but released them hoping to capitalize on the afternoon bite and it just didn't work out for some.
Second Place went to Rick Maddox and Rusty Jewett with 11.16lbs which was worth $1100.00 and 3rd to Team Beef O Bradys, Mickey Gibbs and Jeremy Himes, with only one fish that weighed in 7.78. A special thanks to the Sarasota Hotel and Marina for hosting the event. The whole staff made us feel very welcome and it is a great atmosphere to hold an event.
We had a great time with everyone and we will see you in Tierra Verde for the final stop of the West Coast Artificial Only Series.

LAMBERT & VARNEY'S LONG RUN PAYS OFF...
Xtreme Redfish Championship
Day one of the Xtreme Redfish Series Championship tournament began under threatening skies with a stiff breeze but the clouds only brought light rain to the Sarasota area during mid morning. By early afternoon the sun greeted the 67 teams that qualified and made the trip to fish for a BOAT/MOTOR PACKAGE.
The team that felt most welcomed by the Gulf Coast redfish was father/daughter combo, Tom and Madison Larkin. Their two fish weighed 7.30 pounds and 6.93 pounds; Madison’s being the bigger of the two and the 3rd-largest of the day. “I have two daughters who fish with me,” said Larkin. “This is Madison, 14 years old. Her sister, Morgan, age 11.”
“We got to our first spot and their was nobody else in sight,” said Tom Larkin. “So the spot where we thought we would catch our fish, we had it to ourselves, but we only caught one little fish. Late in the day we caught three, including the two we weighed, on the way in.”
For Aaron Miller and Keith Stonestreet it was nice to take 3rd position on the first day but the duo had to ask ‘what if’. “What I wouldn’t give for the one I lost on the spoon,” lamented Stonestreet. He explained, “I was using monofilament at the time and I didn’t get a good hook set way out there on that fish. That was all I thought about for the next four hours – until we got into them at the end of the day.”
And get into them they did. “We made a long run,” said Miller. We didn’t catch a fish until the last 15 minutes. We were in a little bay up north and started catching them. My partner really got them going.” Their first day total was 13.05 pounds.
Joe Hebert’s Fish On lures are poplar with several anglers on the Xtreme Series, including his wife, Chris. “She used redfish repellent today,” chuckled Joe. “She only caught one redfish.” Her contribution helped run their total weight to 12.63 pounds, which put them in 6th after the opening round.
“We had fish in the boat in five minutes,” said Hebert, who noted they rotated among several spots.
Perhaps most impressive is the age of some key players in this year’s championship. Along with Madison Larkin, young Justin Mullet helped his dad, Jeff, put a two-fish total of 6.96 pounds on the scales. “He caught six fish to my one today,” beamed Jeff.
Another father/son team, Gary and Tyler Brown placed right behind the Mullets in 36th with one fish that weighed 6.78 pounds. “This is what it’s all about,” said Gary, pointing to Tyler. Both wore shirts emblazoned with the Angler’s Legacy logo and the words ‘Take Me Fishing’. Anglers Legacy is a program that encourages all of us to introduce the sport of fishing to someone new.
The effort to recruit the next generation is strong among the teams in the Xtreme Series.
In a weekend of what the weatherman calls ‘changeable weather’, Sunday was a question mark. Unsure of whether conditions would be safe for boating and, if so, how fish would respond to plummeting temperatures and soaring wind speeds, many fretted over the final day. “We finally decided to let them go at eight o’clock,” said director, Mike Blocher, “and then the wind kicked up.”
Some teams elected not to run to their day one locations. Paul Lambert and Brandon Varney did. The decision won them a Ranger 173 Ghost powered by an Evinrude E-Tec engine, valued at $30,000.
“We made the run to Charlotte Harbor,” noted Lambert. “We ran three hours down and three hours back. We had a two-hour window to catch fish and it was non-stop. It was fun.”
While they weighed a pair of reds that went 14.86 and ran their two-day total to 26.03, they could have opened an even wider lead. “We caught one that was right at 27 inches. It might have been just a tad long, so instead of chancing it, with the seven-pounders in the boat, I threw her back. The fish easily weighed eight pounds.”
Varney landed their biggest on the day. It weighed 7.63. “Brandon is my nephew,” said Lambert as the duo walked off stage during final weigh in. “I told him if that fish makes big fish, he can certainly keep the money.” It did. “I couldn’t believe it,” said 16-year-old Varney. “It was, like, the biggest fish I’ve ever seen. I thought it was going to be over, like, 28 inches, but it was right in there.”
Team Lambert/Varney caught their reds by soaking cut ladyfish in sandy holes surrounded by turtle grass on the Charlotte Harbor flats.
Runners-up, Jon Lulay and Larry Fowler, actually enjoyed more action on day two. “Today was better than yesterday – for redfish,” said Fowler. “We caught 12 today. Yesterday we caught 9 redfish, but we had 2 slams; an 8-pound, and a 10-pound snook, and two trout that weighed about four pounds each. Today was too cold for snook but the wind blew the water out and it got low; concentrated the redfish.”
Lulay and Fowler had a two-day total of 23.70 pounds, good for $3,500.
Rick Maddox and Rusty Jewett took 3rd with 22.81 pounds over two days. For their efforts they received $2,500.
James Stephens and DJ green were right on their heels with 22.76. Husband and wife, Joe and Christine Hebert were close behind with 22.66 pounds of redfish.
Day one leaders, the Larkin family, had a rough final round, but young Morgan brought in 5.13-pounder to put them in 15th overall. She hooked the red on an Exude Dart jerkbait. “It was very, very cold,” she smiled. Dad felt bad for her, “Poor thing, loves to fish and every time I take her out the weather does something nasty like this.”

GEORGE AND NICK ATELEVICH TAKE HOME ANOTHER WIN!!!!!!
The morning started off with heavy fog and a southwest wind and a 50 percent chance of rain. Well the fog lifted, the skies cleared up and we did not get any rain and in turned up some nice catches. George and Nick Atelevich's day started off slow with a 3 and 4 pound red. Then around 9:00am they caught a good fish he was 26 3/4 and 6.47lbs. They caught a few more small reds and about 10:30am George hooked a fish that he thought was small because the fish was swimming at him, but once he got a glimpse of the fish he loosened up his drag and the fight was on. The fish gave him a great fight and when he got him to the boat the hook was about to come out and when Nick netted the fish the hook popped out of the fishes mouth. When George measured the fish it was 26 3/4 and weighed in at 7.03lbs. And for 2 hours after that the fish was belly up, they had to go at slow speed back to the boat ramp with George reviving the fish all the way back. The fish was weighed and did swim away at the ramp.
1st place George & Nick Atelevich 13.50lbs 2370.00 with BIG FISH
2nd place Ron Schurr & Tim Cutting 13.23lbs 940.00
3rd place Kyle Craven & J D Nobles 12.51lbs 470.00

JOSEPH BOYD AND JOEL PECK WIN WITH ALMOST 14 LBS AND THE BIG FISH ALMOST GOT AWAY!!!
It was overcast most of the morning and windy then by early afternoon the sun made its appearance and the winds calmed down some. Joseph Boyd and Joel Peck fished the last of the incoming tide and by 8:00am they had both fish that they weighed in 13.90lbs. They caught there fish on crab and mud minnows. Joseph told me that when they caught the big fish they went to measure it and they almost lost it over the side. They had to wrestle the fish before it flipped out of the boat. They only caught 2 other fish that were oversized and for there efforts they took home 1st place honors and a cool 1860.00 dollars. Thanks again to all the anglers that came out and fished, hope to see you for our next event on June 21st 2008.

GEORGE ATELEVICH & NICK ATELEVICH LAST MINUTE CAST GIVES THEM THE WIN!!!
It was a beautiful sunny day, light south to southeast winds and about 80 degrees. George and Nick Atelevich won the second event of the year by the slimest of margins .01 of an ounce. The fish bite was better in the morning and then tapered off in the afternoon. They only caught 6 to 8 fish but the quality of there fish were good. George told Nick lets stop at one more spot before they came in and boy did it pay off, on George's last cast he hooked up with a fish that put him over the top and was 3 ounces bigger then the one he released. If it is your day its your day everything seems to fall into place and they stuck exactly to there game plan. There weight was 13.72lbs and they took home 2030.00 dollars. 2nd place went to Chris Henninger& Matt Davis there fish weighed 13.71lbs and for there efforts they took home 1040.00 dollars. 3rd place went to Larry Finch and Logan Finch there fish weighed 13.36lbs and made 540.00 dollars. 4th place went to Wes Bauer and Justin Bauer there weight was 12.37 lbs and took home 365.00 dollars. 5th place team was Jimmy Pausche and John Morrison there fish weighed 12.34lbs and got 250.00 dollars. 6th place went to Chuck Dehlinger and Bob Morris (who won the 1st event) there fish weighed 12.10lbs and received 185.00 dollars. 7th place went to Mike Fraley and Mike Meadows there weight was 12.09lbs and took home 150.00 dollars. CHUCK DEHLINGER & BOB MORRIS WIN THE 1ST XTREME OF 2008 AGAINST A 58 BOAT FIELD!!!!
What a fantastic day on the water, sunny skies calm winds and some real nice fish weighed in. We had 7 fish that were over 7lbs quite impressive. One of them came from the winning team of Chuck Dehlinger and Bob Morris they came to the scales with 13.08lbs to win the 1st event of 2008. They both told me they like to sight fish and they were poling some real skinny water and throwing only artificial baits so that goes to show you that artificial can beat live bait. And for that they took home $2030.00 dollars not bad for a $120.00 dollar entry fee. My belief is, if you use bait or artificial, you just need to find big fish that will eat. Our next tournament will be on April 26th at Joe Carlucci boat ramp and the captains meeting will be held on Friday April 25th at 7:00pm at Billys Boathouse Grill on Beach Blvd.

O'BRIEN AND HARTLEY TAKE THE XTREME REDFISH SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP
Scott O’Brien and Randy Hartley of the Jacksonville Division took the Xtreme Redfish Series Championship December 8-9 out of Dee Bartel Ramp at Fernandina Beach with a two-day total of 26.57 pounds, including the first day’s big red at 6.87 pounds. The team took home a fully rigged Ranger 173 Ghost, powered by a 90 H.P. Evinrude E-TEC, valued at $30,000, plus another $500 for their big fish.
Among the field of 50 boats, the champions stayed with one pattern on both days at Fernandina Beach. On the high tide they worked DOA minnows and Berkley tube baits around oyster bars, and when the tide began to move out they quickly found run-outs, where they dropped anchor and waited for the fish to come to them. The team said they caught over 50 fish off huge schools each day.
In second place was Team of the Year Champions Paul Lambert and 15-year-old Brandon Varney of the Punta Gorda Division who brought a two-day total of 24.90 pounds to the scales to collect a check for $3,000. The team took the short route to find fish. Just two miles from the launch site, and burning less than seven gallons of gas during the whole tournament, they worked large schools of reds, using shrimp and cut mullet. They said their best fishing time was around mid-tide off oyster bars, but at dead low tide the fish were bunched up and hard to catch. The Team of the Year was awarded to Lambert and Varney for finishing higher in points than any other divisional champion.
In third place were Jim Price and Dwayne Taylor of the Jacksonville Division who finished the tourney with a total of 24.72 pounds, and earned $2,000. Price and Taylor made the run back to Jacksonville and fished the Intra Coastal waterway using live crabs. The team said they caught fish all day from high to low tide.
Chad Davis and Josh Brown of the Jacksonville Division were fourth with 24.60 pounds and made a check for $1,500. Rounding out the top five were Fred Rounsaville and Perke Robinson of the Jacksonville Division, who earned $1,250 and an extra $250 in Ranger Cup money.
Although the Jacksonville Division dominated the paid places, it was a tight race to the finish where less than seven pounds separated the top ten finishers. In the number 10 spot was John Baty and Charlie Simpson of the Crystal River Division, who took the biggest jump in the tournament. After day one the team was in 27th place with just 4.47 pounds, but on day two they leap-frogged to 10th with a total of 19.79 pounds, including the big red weighing 8.45 pounds, and earned a total of $1,100.
The Frequent Fishing Program winners were Jeff Carolan and Gary Sheppard. They placed higher than any other team that fished at least eight or more tournaments.
On the eve of day one the anglers were treated to a banquet dinner at the Kraft Athletic Club at Fernandina Beach, where tournament director Mike Blocher reviewed tournament rules and announced that the 2008 season would hold four red fish open events that will be artificial baits only. Times and dates would be forthcoming.
“I am so proud of all our fishermen this year in the Redfish series,” said Blocher. “They have been so supportive, and have demonstrated what being a sportsman and a gentleman is all about, and I really look forward to next year’s events.”
After their Xtreme Bass Series Championship in September with 150 teams on Kissimmee Lake out of Camp Mack, where the winners were awarded a fully rigged Ranger 519VX Tour Edition, with a 200 HP Evinrude E-TEC motor, it was a great way for Xtreme to end the year with the Redfish Series as one of the largest and most successful trails in the state.
